Description   Tumor necrosis factor-alpha (TNF-alpha) is a cytokine that binds to TNFRSF1A/TNFR1 and TNFRSF1B/TNFBR. TNF is secreted by macrophages, monocytes, neutrophils, T-cells, and NK-cells following their stimulation by bacterial LPS. Cells expressing CD4 secrete TNF-alpha while CD8 cells secrete little or no TNF-alpha. The synthesis of TNF-alpha is induced by many different stimuli including interferons, IL2, GM-CSF. It is a potent pyrogen causing fever by direct action or by stimulation of interleukin-1 secretion and is implicated in the induction of cachexia. Recombinant rat TNF-alpha produced in E. coli is a single non-glycosylated polypeptide chain containing 157 amino acids with a MW of 17,339.44 Da.
